For all full-time and intensive tuition roles Witherow Brooke also provides a unique level of oversight and support to both tutors and families, including quarterly reports where progress is tracked against academic goals as well as strategy for future educational ambitions.
The tutors we identify are selected for their subject mastery across the middle school curriculum, whether in mathematics from pre-algebra through Algebra I and Geometry, the sciences including life science, earth science and physical science, English language arts and literature, US and world history, or world languages, as well as their ability to build rapport and motivate a student through a period of considerable academic and personal change. Homeschooling for Middle School Students
Witherow Brooke provides specialist full-time, in-person home tutoring worldwide for students in Grades 6 to 8, whether across the full middle school programme or a shorter, more intensive period.
Every student is unique, and so is every family's situation. That's why we have a bespoke recruitment and oversight process for every full-time or intensive tuition role. This process carefully identifies tutors who are best suited to each student's subject requirements, learning style and personality, ensuring students are paired with expert educators capable of delivering the full middle school curriculum, from pre-algebra and physical science to literature and US history, to an elite standard.
Because the middle school curriculum falls within the range one exceptional educator can teach in full, homeschooling at this stage is particularly effective. A single primary tutor can cover the entire programme themselves, an arrangement many families find preferable, as it allows a strong rapport to develop and a consistent teaching approach to be applied across every subject. FAQs
Can one tutor adequately cover all of my child's middle school subjects? In most cases, yes. The middle school curriculum sits within a range that an exceptional educator can teach in full, and a single tutor covering mathematics, science, English language arts and history to a high standard is usually preferable to several tutors working in isolation. It allows a much stronger rapport to develop, a consistent approach to be applied across subjects, and one person to hold the full picture of a student's progress. Where a student is working significantly ahead in one discipline or requires specialist support in another, we can supplement a primary tutor with additional subject specialists, or coordinate a full team.
Can a tutor help with high school placement and entrance assessments? Yes. Our tutors support preparation for the ISEE and SSAT and for independent day and boarding school entrance, alongside ongoing curriculum work. Because the underlying skills are largely the same, verbal reasoning, reading comprehension, quantitative reasoning and written expression, preparation is most effective when integrated with a student's wider academic programme rather than treated as a separate exercise.
Is online or in-person tutoring better for middle school students? This depends on the family's circumstances.
