FAQs
When should a student begin preparing for college admissions? Earlier than most families expect, though not in the form most families expect. The foundations of an application are course selection, grades and academic interests, and these are established from Grade 9 onwards. Standardised testing typically begins in Grade 11, and essay work in the summer before Grade 12. A student who has been well taught throughout is in a considerably stronger position than one who begins admissions preparation in their final year, however intensive that preparation is.
Can you help with SAT and ACT preparation? Yes. Our tutors prepare students for both, and can advise on which is likely to suit a particular student, as most colleges accept either. Preparation is most effective when integrated with a student's wider academic work rather than treated as a separate exercise, particularly in mathematics and reading comprehension where the underlying skills are shared with coursework.
Do you support students applying from outside the US and UK? Yes. We regularly work with internationally mobile families and with students following other curricula, including the International Baccalaureate and national systems. Our tutors advise on how a student's qualifications are likely to be interpreted by admissions committees in their destination country, address any gaps created by a change of curriculum, and prepare students for testing and interview formats they may not have encountered.
Do you support applications to higher education institutions outside the US? Absolutely. We are highly experienced in helping students apply to institutions in the UK, Europe and around the world. In the UK, admissions rest heavily on subject-specific admissions tests and interviews, both of which reward depth in the chosen subject rather than general accomplishment. We identify tutors with direct experience of these processes, frequently graduates of the relevant course, who can prepare a candidate through subject supervision and realistic interview practice. We work with students applying to other competitive courses, including medicine, law and engineering, in the same way.
