Current vacancy

Mathematics & Computer Science IB Summer Tuition - Tangier, Morocco

Background to the role

A family in Tangier are seeking a tutor for their two sons for a period of summer tuition. Both students follow the IB curriculum at a British curriculum school in the UK, with the elder son currently in Grade 11 moving into Grade 12, and the younger in Grade 9 moving into Grade 10.

The elder student is the primary focus of this role. He takes Mathematics and Computer Science both at higher level (as well as Business, Economics, French and English at Standard Level). He has a good average predicted score across his subjects, and is a motivated student with diverse interests and an easy-going nature.

Mathematics is his main priority: he finished last year with a 6 and is looking to push towards a 7 as he prepares for the year ahead. Computer Science is his secondary priority; he has been achieving 6s but feels there is room to develop further. He is already comfortable in Business and Economics, and places comparatively little importance on French and English with his future academic focus being in the STEM subjects.

The younger is also a motivated student with good grades across the board, though he has no immediate academic goals beyond the standard curriculum. He is due to choose two IB subjects to be tested on in Grade 10 as part of his IB Middle Years Programme, with one of these subjects likely to be Mathematics. Outside of academics, he enjoys gaming and sport, particularly football.

Duties of the tutor

The tutor will deliver approximately five hours of tuition per day, split across both boys with the majority of time and focus directed towards the elder student in Mathematics and, ideally Computer Science as well.

The tutor will review the student’s progress to date, identifying and filling any gaps in his knowledge in order to best prepare him for the upcoming year. Topics from the upcoming Grade 12 curricula may also be introduced so that he is able to start the new school year with strong momentum.

The tutor will work with the younger student to support him with his existing subjects as well as supporting him in thinking through his upcoming IB subject choices. Beyond tutoring per se, the tutor will help the student further develop his enjoyment in his studies so that he can identify where his future academic journey will lie.

Desired tutor profile

Strong subject expertise and teaching experience in IB Mathematics at higher level is essential. Teaching Computer Science at IB higher level is also desirable, as is a track record of improving students’ grades.

The tutor should be warm, approachable and easy-going rather than strict or overly formal, with a natural authority and capable of driving focused academic progress. Experience with IB students moving between grade years, and the ability to build rapport quickly with two brothers of different ages and academic stages, would be highly valuable. The role would suit a versatile, personable tutor comfortable working intensively with one family across multiple subjects and two students simultaneously.
